Relationship Therapy

relationship therapy.png

Relationship Therapy, also known as couple therapy and counseling has been known to be quite effective for individuals who are dating and are willing to take their relationship a step further. Married couples are also advised to engage in relationship therapy, whether they are looking to develop effective communication, stimulate intimacy after a break, or build trust after disloyalty.

Since most couples aim to live together, tolerance is as important as dealbreakers. If you think you may not be able to tolerate something from your partner, but you are willing to try and work through it because you love him, relationship therapy can be recommended to help you and your partner find a compromise. Sometimes, the therapist you decide to work with may be as important as the kind of approach you decide to take for your sessions. There are various types of couple therapy depending on the purpose of your engagement.

The Emotion-Focused Therapy

To get a relationship to work, the two involved parties must be willing to thrash any issue that may negatively affect their marriage in the long run. If your partner cheated on you, and you are willing to give them another chance, but you are struggling to trust them again, it is important to speak about what you are feeling. Some individuals endure verbal abuse and emotional bullying from their partners, which can leave them feeling worthless. The emotion-focused therapy involves both partners sharing how they felt or still feel about certain happenings in their relationship and how they can work to expose and understand these feelings.

At Therabridge, we create a safe space for our patients, where they can voice out and identify their feelings without judgment or condemnation. We also focus on specific and fair approaches, when couples can work together through their issues to achieve their relationship goals.

The Gottman Method Couples Therapy

All individuals come from different backgrounds and may develop according to their immediate environment. Some persons may ravish in PDAs, while their partners struggle with showing affection in public. In this kind of relationship, communication can be awkward, and one party may be happier than the other. Gottman Therapy focuses on the shared virtues that both partners possess, whether they are single or with each other. During the therapy sessions involving the Gottman approach, the therapist is allowed to block and wedge off any detrimental behaviors like gaslighting, stonewalling, criticism, contempt, and defensiveness.

At Therabridge, Our therapists use the Gottman approach to help companions understand each other's backgrounds and beliefs, alongside appreciating each other's qualities. We use the Gottman approach to identify triggers of persistent gloomy feelings and try to deal with them.

The Imago Relationship Therapy

As kids develop into adults, they look up to the important people around them to nurture and groom them. They start building their mentality from what they see and experience in their environment. For instance, a woman who saw her dad cheating on her mum multiple times may liken her boyfriend to her dad if he smiles at the cashier in a supercenter.

The Imago relationship therapy focuses on unhealed wounds obtained while growing up and unmet childhood needs that may have shaped an individual's mentality, which he carries into his relationship. These wounds or shortcomings may end up becoming conflicts or triggers for negative behaviors in a relationship. Individuals may start building a perspective of their partners, along with the characteristics they saw in the people they love while growing up, whether good or bad.

At Therabridge, we employ the imago relationship approach to teach partners things about themselves and about how they can love and feel safe. Most individuals build their self-worth around the actions of the significant people in their lives, so it would not be strange if the actions of their partners trigger familiar feelings or old memories.

Conclusion

At Therabridge, we create a safe, therapeutic environment for willing couples to understand and thrash out various issues in their relationship. Our goal is to help improve the individual lives and the relationships of our patients, developing communication and intimacy and building a stronger bond between partners.
